Some of you might have heard that our cowboy club was planning to donate a tree to the family of Postman for a living memorial of him by the members & friends of the Long Nine Cowboys. There were a lot of ideas regarding what to do, where to put it and how to go about it.

A Beloved Cowboy Rides Away

We mourn the loss of Postman, one of everyone’s favorite cowboys.  He passed away in his home as a result of cancer on Oct. 28, 2011.

SASS World Championship 2011 Scores & Results

end-of-trail-webEnd of Trail is the World Championship of Cowboy Action Shooting and is open to any SASS [Single Action Shooting Society] member. The 2011 End of Trail took place from June 19 – Jun 26 at Founders Ranch, outside Albuquerque, New Mexico with 674 shooters. Our own Black Jack McGinnis served as an official photographer for the event.

Charity Shoot & Wild Bunch

Wild-Bunch-97The 12th Annual Charity Shoot in Monmouth & Milan, Illinois, raised over $40,000 for St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.  Several Long Nine Shooters participated and did well, including Boben Weev as First B-Western and Montana Di as 2nd Ladies 49′er, along with numerous Illinois shooters whom you’ll recognize. The match was called on the 2nd day due to thunderstorms.

Condolences to Brisco Big’n

daffodilDonald Goodall, father of Richard Goodall [a.k.a. Brisco Big'n], club president of the Long Nine Cowboys,  passed away on Wednesday, December 22, 2010, in Springfield, Illinois.

The Long Nine Cowboys send our condolences to Richard and the Goodall family.  Mr. Goodall leaves three children and three siblings.

Old West Reenactors Wanted

Broadwell-Tavern-InnIf you’d like to “play cowboy” as a cowboy or cowgirl reenactor or a lady or gentleman from the 1800’s in central Illinois, join us at the Clayville Fall Festival.

Clayville is the site of the historic Broadwell Tavern & Inn [left] which was a stagecoach stop in the 1800’s.  The Pleasant Plains Historical Society is restoring the site and celebrating with a Fall Festival.

Little Wing wins Midwest Regional “Guns of August”

bigironsmainlogoGuns of August, the Midwest SASS Regional Championship, was held August 12 – 15, 2010 in Middletown, Ohio, hosted by the Big Iron Rangers.

The match attracted 315 shooters.  Overall winner was Little Wing shooting in Cowboy class.  Top lady shooter was Sage Chick, shooting in Young Gun category.
