We had 46 shooters in three posses including 2 new shooters, but alas we only managed four clean shooters in the mix — Don Jorge, Black Jack McGinnis, Lady Viper and Spud Davenport.

We enjoyed some amusing and challenging stages written by Match Director, Don Jorge, although we did have to slog through puddles as neighboring Lick Creek crept up steadily throughout the match, making for muddy conditions at the 5th match in a row.  Thanks to everyone who helped set up and tear down the stages before and after the match.

The 2010 Illinois Championship of SASS [Single Action Shooting Society] was held on May 20 – 23, 2010, with 221 participants at the World Shooting Complex outside Sparta, Illinois.  The Long Nine Cowboys were were well represented with over 20 shooters who are either members of our club or shoot with us regularly at monthly matches.

Our own Boben Weev and Miss Weev were organizers of of the event, along with the host club, the Kaskaskia Cowboys.  They put on an excellent match with something for everyone, attracting 22 vendors from several states.  The stages were fun, fast and logical, yet challenging with plenty of movement.

There were generous door prizes, a well-attended banquet with live entertainment and costume contest, plus numerous awards.  Boben Weev served as Match Director, working with a talented and willing crew.

Not enough sense to come in out of the…

Rain greeted us again at the range for our May Match for the third month in a row.  Twenty-seven shooters came to the match hoping the skies would clear.  Just 12 mud puppies failed the I.Q. test and stayed to shoot the main match, including 3 clean shooters in 3 stages.

Free Shoot? If you registered for this past match but didn’t shoot due to rain [and didn't get a refund], you can have a free shoot when you join us again before the end of 2010.

Thanks to everyone who helped set up on Friday & Saturday and special thanks to Lt Dan and Slugger O’Toole who volunteered to come back on Monday evening to clear up the stages so we didn’t have to stay and put them away in the pouring rain after the match.  Thanks to Lemon Drop Kid for calculating & posting match points and to Marley Devereau for running the scorer’s table and training Buffalo Burr in our scoring system as a back-up person.

It might have been a little bit muddy at the range for the April match…

We had fun with 14 shooters in one jolly posse on an overcast day with sun peeking through blue skies off and on.

Our posse included 2 clean shooters, one new shooter, and a welcome back to Errol Plain, who hadn’t shot with us for awhile, but braved a little mud to enjoy the great outdoors in Loami.

Thanks to the Lefthanders Gun Club who helped set up on Saturday as part of their Work Day and who provided us a delicious hot chicken lunch while it rained outside then stopped so we could finish the match.

We had over two dozen people show up, but 17 of us actually shot the match, which we shortened to four stages.  There were three clean shooters.

No speed records were set and judging by the number of misses, the targets must have jumped around quite a bit in the rain.  The shooters were under shelter, however.
